On Tuesday April 12, 2011 at 10:00am Hancock County Schools (HCS) had the official groundbreaking indoors (due to weather conditions) for Weir High School (WHS) Multi-Sports Stadium at the WHS gymnasium.  The groundbreaking event was open to the public. 

Sue Smith, Superintendent of HCS welcomed all present and introduced Allison Viakley, Junior at WHS who sang the National Anthem.   Miss Smith also introduced guest speakers, Jerry Durante president of the Hancock County Board of Education, Marty Hudek Principal of WHS and Maria Grieco senior at WHS.  Featured guest speaker was Dr.  Mark Manchin, Executive Director of the School Building Authority.

The WHS Multi-Sports Stadium will include artificial turf field, seating capacity for 3,040, restrooms, game locker rooms, concession stands, press box, scoreboard, PA/sound system, upgrading of existing field lighting, repair and resurface the existing 8-lane track, field fencing and additional campus parking.

The expected completion date is May, 2012.
